Russell obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Queen's University in 2004, and was called to the Bar in the Province of Ontario in 2005. Prior to studying law, Russell received a Bachelor of Social Science degree (Honours) from the University of Western Ontario where he studied Political Science and Economics. While at Queen's, Russell was invovled in the moot court program, representing Queens in a national moot court competition, as well as the community legal aid clinic.

Russell is a memeber of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association

Prior to joining Fireman Wolfe LLP in 2007, Russell practiced law in Ottawa in the area of personal injury litigation.
